In this session, they discuss why her impulses to binge are subsiding as she changes the way she thinks about her relationship with her mother. When she's angry and resentful about her mom, her desire to eat increases. When she takes responsibility and reduces the victim feelings, her desire to eat decreases. As people address and resolve the emotions that underlie their desires to eat, binge eating can be seen as a coping mechanism, rather than an "addiction." This is described in Robin's book, Diet Supremacy: The Toxic Bond Between Shame, Dieting, and Emotional Eating.
