This client is struggling back and forth, in and out of recovery. Her biggest struggle is that she is still hoping for weight loss. She weighs over 250 pounds, which to her is the problem and focus of her mind. What she hadn't seen is that the focus on weight as the problem, is what has created a distorted and strained relationship between dieting and overeating. She recognizes her emphasis on her weight going up or down, is perpetuating her stress around food and resultant overeating.
When she allows herself to look at NOT losing weight, and to feel the negativity attached to accepting what has happened to her body in her "battle with weight," the clenching grip that the diet/binge/diet cycle has on her mind loosens. This willingness to face the shame, embarrassment, and the truth of the body, with the humility to admit failure and loss, is where freedom opens up. Accepting your body is the door to releasing your mind from the grips of the eating disorder between dieting add bingeing.
