In this session, they discuss the fear she has of living with physical limitation and the protentional of dying early because of her weight. The problem is that she accepts the physical issues when she wants to binge, but the pressure to diet to fix those issues is so intense and strict, that any deviation from the diet feels like failure. That failure promotes further bingeing. Seeing her body, and the fear of her physical issues is a huge trigger for bingeing as she anticipates radically restricting food. The fear and pressure to lose a large amount of weight (hundreds of pounds), is what is determining how strict she thinks she needs to be eating food. Essentially, she has approached dieting like an anorexic. This radical diet strategy has promoted her toxic relationship with food. This content is described in depth in Robin's book, Diet Supremacy: The Toxic Bond Between Shame, Dieting, and Emotional Eating. Robin discusses the more radical issues that occur in her book Body Supremacy: Exploring the Torments of Eating Disorders as a Syndrome.
